英國著名物理學家霍金（Stephen Hawking）接受《泰晤士報》的訪問中，再次發出人工智慧對人類帶來的毀滅威脅及影響。他告誡人類應該要早點建立有效機制，並且盡早意識到日新月異的科技會帶來的威脅。這也是他在2015年之後，對人力發出的第二次警告，未來浩劫絕對少不了「過度發展的人工智慧」。
據英國《獨立報》報導，霍金博士先前就曾經多次警告人工智慧可能會對人類自身帶來威脅。他指出，自人類有文明生活以來，這個「侵略」就開始存在，並且出現在相對具有生存優勢的群體之間，而近年大幅發展的人工智慧，最有可能進一步發展成這種優勢。
霍金曾在《衛報》撰文表示，人類的生存環境正在改變，這種改變結合了過度的科技，因此大於歷史上的任何時期，我們人類更需要拋棄世俗的政治觀念，應該要跨種族與族群進行合作。他更於2015年8月，在美國Reddit網站上的問答互動，首次提出自己對人工智慧的「威脅論」看法；他確信「優異的AI」絕對會「實現它的目標」，因此當人類與它「道不同」時，絕對有間接獲直接剷除人類的可能。
